About the Artist
Prachi Gawas is a London-based contemporary artist whose practice bridges the rich traditions of Indian folk art with modern perspectives shaped by nature, wildlife, and cross-cultural experiences. Born and raised in India, she was drawn to the delicate motifs and diverse folk art from an early age, which continue to influence her artistic style.
Having since lived across India, the United States, and the United Kingdom, her creative vision is profoundly influenced by diverse ecological themes. Through intricate patterns and bold compositions, she translates these experiences into expressive visual narratives that reveal profound bonds within the natural world, inviting viewers to engage through a deeply empathetic lens.
Where Precision Meets Freedom
Working primarily in acrylics, I blend intricate Indian folk art patterns with vivid color palettes to evoke a sense of movement, depth, and texture.
As a self-taught artist, working through Indian folk art has become my most instinctive and unrestricted form of expression. Over time, my practice has evolved into a balance between precision and spontaneity, where meticulous craftsmanship coexists with movement, intuition, and storytelling.
Exploring Shared Instincts between Humans and Wildlife
I am particularly drawn to the emotional parallels between humans and the animal kingdom, whether capturing the untamed energy of wildlife or the quiet spirit of domestic animals, often portraying animals with a sense of tenderness, vulnerability, and curiosity.
At the heart of my practice is a belief in the delicate interconnectedness of all living things. I hope my paintings encourage viewers to move beyond observation toward a deeper empathy, reflection, and care for the natural world.

The Big Elephant Auction 2026
Selected artist for the 10th anniversary conservation auction organised by Explorers Against Extinction as part of the Sketch for Survival. My elephant-inspired postcard was auctioned to raise funds for wildlife conservation.
London Rivers Week 2026
